It's been a while since I posted - and so much has been happening. Tours, videos, websites - you name it and we're trying to do it. Malkin Music has been very busy with clients.
I spent this week with friends helping them work out the kinks in a new software program built especially for artists, managers and basically the music industry. It brings up one of the critical components to keeping yourself in work and on the referral list of many - organization. You don't have to be a whiz, but you do need to know how to keep track of information. Maybe a spreadsheet for internet sites and passwords? Maybe a to-do box? Maybe you print out emails that have mailings pending ... it doesn't matter. There are a lot of ways from the inexpensive to the mortgage payment level to make sure your work gets done in a timely manner. I don't know if artists realize that when someone asks for CDs, posters, etc that they need them yesterday.
Oh, I'm not perfect! I just guiltily slinked in to the post office with a few packages that were very overdue. This frigid weather has me on a "warm day mailing only" routine so I haven't been out much. Not great in January. And, I also have an inbox that has more red flags than not ... but at least they are flagged.
The point is to find a system that works for you. It may be a bit daunting when you have an overburdened to-do list, but at least you are on the road to getting things done. And that is the most important thing.
